Downtown Raleigh's Winterfest Outdoor Ice Skating Rink Open Saturday!



Saturday, November 22nd at Noon marks the opening of The Ipreo Winterfest ice rink in City Plaza, Downtown Raleigh. The Raleigh Winterfest is a two-month, community-wide winter celebration. A center piece during the winter season, the premier holiday event features its signature outdoor skating rink along with two months of fun-filled festivities, creating memorable experiences for downtown Raleigh visitors.

Grab your mittens, lace up your kicks, and make your way to City Plaza in Downtown Raleigh for a 10-week long holiday event featuring an outdoor skating rink made with natural ice. The ice rink is open from November 22, 2014 to February 1, 2015. Skaters will also be able to skate during the mayor's tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 6th.


There are several discount days and events to give you more bang for your buck: 

  • Two for Tuesdays - On Tuesdays when you buy one admission at full price, you get the second admission free
  • Date & Skate Night - On Thursdays if you arrive between 6-9 p.m., you can enjoy a complimentary horse-drawn carriage ride through downtown Raleigh with the purchase of an ice rink wristband.
  • Rock Around the Rink Fridays - On Fridays from 8-11pm, skaters will glide to the beat as local DJs spin the hottest hits

Ice rink admission (including skate rental) is $9 for both adults and children.

70th Annual Raleigh Christmas Parade 2014

A look back at the Early Days
of the Raleigh Christmas Parade


Saturday, November 22, 2014 celebrates the 70th Annual Raleigh Christmas Parade. It is the largest Christmas parade between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta. Over 250,000 will watch the parade live from home and over 60,000 will attend the parade in person. Starting at 9:40am the parade will last approximately 2.5 hours and will feature something for the whole family. It will be re-broadcast on Christmas morning.

The Raleigh Christmas Parade begins on Hillsborough Street and ends at Lenoir Street. If you are planning on attending the parade in person, make sure to bundle up, arrive early and be ready for a morning full of festive fun! Something to think about, the parade will end around 12:30 and after a morning of excitement, many will be hungry. If you are planning to grab a bite to eat, making a reservation ahead of time might be a good idea. The last thing you want is to be stuck in line waiting for lunch along with 60,000 other people!

Create Holiday Traditions in the Triangle Area!



Here in the Triangle Area of North Carolina, no sooner was Halloween over, than Christmas was in full swing! The stores are brimming with gift ideas, decorations for inside and outside, and, of course, the holiday scents!

This will be our first holiday season in the Triangle Area, and we are looking forward to seeing the lights, parades and carriage rides! Mark your calendar now to ensure that your family doesn't miss out on these amazing events! Apex


December 6th - Pancake Breakfast
The Salem Street firehouse serves a pancake breakfast for families from 7-10am.
Families can have their pictures taken at 2pm and 4pm in front of the Halle Cultural Arts Center. Apex’s Parade starts at 5pm.
December 7th - Historic Home Tours
The tour will feature several local homes from 1-5pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance (starting the first week in November) or on tour day.
December 21-23rdCelebrate Chanukah
At the Wonderland Activity Center enjoy donut decorating, art projects bounce house and more. A grand menorah lighting takes place December 21st at 5pm.


Cary


November 21st - Winter Wonderland & Tree Lighting
Waverly Place hosts a winter wonderland where families can visit with Santa and his elves and enjoy face painting and ornament making. The tree lighting ceremony is at 7pm on the promenade stage. 

December 6th - Ole Time Winter Festival 
Families can experience old fashioned holiday fun and horse drawn carriage rides from 4-6pm at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center. The tree lighting ceremony is at 6pm at the Town Hall Campus. 

December 13th - Cary Christmas Parade
For the past 25 years, the Cary Jaycees have sponsored the Christmas Parade in downtown Cary. The parade begins at 2pm and includes bands, mascots, local businesses, community groups and churches.

December 16-17th - Live Outdoor Nativity
Saint Francis United Methodist Church in Cary presents the live outdoor nativity from 6-8pm. There will be indoor nativity displays, food, crafts and music.

December 30th - Annual Kwanzaa Celebration
The 20th annual Cary Kwanzaa is a communal, cultural celebration that honors African-American people and their heritage.


Fuquay Varina


December 4th - Tree Lighting Ceremony
Enjoy free sleigh rides in the downtown district and the tree lighting ceremony from 6-8pm. Bring a canned food item, which serves as a ticket for the sleigh ride, to benefit the Fuquay Varina Emergency Food Pantry.

December 7th - Christmas Parade
The town's annual Christmas parade starts at 3pm on Main Street.




Holly Springs


December 12th - Main Street Christmas
Enjoy hayrides, caroling and live entertainment from 6-8pm. Mrs. Claus will read stories and Santa will visit with children at the Town Hall until 7:30pm. The tree lighting ceremony is at 8pm at the Cultural Center.

December 13th - Happy Holly Days Parade
Celebrate as floats, bands, dancers, decorated vehicles, horses, marching groups and more travel Main Street through downtown at 11am.
